Military Group Activities on the Yorkshire Coast
Strengthening Units Through Coastal Challenge
Scarborough Surf School delivers AALA licensed coastal adventure activities for military units, reserve forces, cadet organisations and leadership groups at Cayton Bay, Scarborough.
Our programmes place teams into a dynamic coastal environment where success depends on resilience, communication, decision-making and trust. This is real water, real exposure and real challenge – delivering genuine reward and shared achievement.
Why Military Groups choose Scarborough Surf School
AALA Licensed – Adventure Without Compromise
We operate as an AALA licensed provider, allowing groups to take on high-challenge coastal activities with robust safety systems in place, without diluting the intensity of the experience.
Built for Teams That Want More
We typically work with groups of around 30 participants per session, but are not limited to this number. Larger units, such as groups of 60, are split and run through back-to-back sessions with high energy and smooth transitions.
A Coastline That Demands Respect
Cold water, moving seas, cliffs, gullies and exposed routes create a powerful natural training environment that forces teams to adapt and support one another.
Group Activities
Surfing for Military Groups
Surfing is delivered as a full-focus activity day in a constantly changing environment that demands balance, awareness, resilience and repeated commitment.
Day formats may include a structured surf session followed by lunch and open surf hire, or two surf sessions in one day depending on conditions and capability.
Coasteering (3 Hours)
A physically demanding coastal activity involving sea swimming, traversing exposed rock, scrambling, climbing and committing jumps into deep water.
For energy management, coasteering and surfing are not run on the same day.
Eco Coasteer
Combines physical coasteering with a deeper understanding of terrain, geology and coastal ecosystems, reinforcing respect for the environment while maintaining challenge.
Yorkshire Coast Challenge – Coasteering
A full-day mission-style coastal journey involving bigger jumps, exposed traverses, technical climbs and team problem-solving under pressure.
Super SUP – Team Challenge
High-energy team challenges on a giant SUP board including coordinated paddling, balance battles, last-person-standing scenarios and the ultimate goal of riding a wave together.
